The Motiveless Offense

This week’s lesson on the beginnings of Historical Christianity and how the Christian belief has been challenged, were not new lessons for me. I’ve already learned some of them from my past subjects such as New Testament survey and other bible subjects.  However, as we went through our lessons, there was something that caught my attention in view of the church. I didn’t know that the church was a great offender during this time. I thought they were offended but then, the church made an offense to the ethics and economy of the Roman Empire. The lifestyle of the Christians was misunderstood by the people and thus making them different from them. So as a result, Christians were being oppressed because of this offense.
In my life, I just realized that the more you live in obedience to the word of God, the more the unbelieving people will hurt you. And this is very evident during the time when I began to follow the Lord Jesus. I tend to show what is right from the Bible and some of my friends during high school would criticize me for being a religious man. I felt alone when they mocked me or criticized my beliefs but I knew I stood for what is right from the Bible.
As an application, I need to continue to live in obedience with the word of God. If the word of God contradicts to what the world says, I should follow God’s word rather than the world. In our place, couples live together though they are not yet married. Some of them have sons and daughter but not married. In short, morality in terms of living together as a couple is very low. As a Christian, I will not be pressured to follow them. I will not live with my future partner without getting married. The Bible is the final authority in my life. I will follow what its commands and principles.
